Gas Firing Workshop

*This workshop is only available to students enrolled in a Fall 2024 class or studio access.*

This very special workshop is presented in partnership with Saltstone Ceramics founder Sarah Steinginger Leroux. Participants will learn the basics of gas firing and learn how to work with a cone 10 clay. Each student will be allotted 2 cubic feet of kiln space in Steininger Leroux’s gas kiln. Those with a particular interest in gas firing may be granted access to the kiln during the load in. This will be at Steininger Leroux’s discretion and can be discussed with her at the first session.

This is a two session Intermediate Workshop, with a special greenware deadline.

Sunday, September 22nd, 1:00PM - 2:30PM

Participants will meet with Sarah Steinginger Leroux onsite at Pottery Northwest and receive one bag of cone 10 clay. There will be a choice of stoneware or porcelain. They will receive basic instructions on how to prepare their wares for the gas fire and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Sunday, October 27th , 9:00PM

This will be the greenware deadline for all gas firing participants. There will be a special rack dedicated to this workshop. All ware for the gas fire must be on this cart by the deadline. We will bisque the work in house to prep them for the gas kiln glaze fire.

Participants will meet again with Sarah Steinginger Leroux onsite at Pottery Northwest and be given access to her own special cone 10 glazes. All bisqued work that met the greenware deadline will be finished in time for this session. Steinginger Leroux will lead a glaze demo and answer any additional questions. The wares will be transported off-site for the gas fire. Anyone interested in participating in the load in must make arrangements with Steinginger Leroux.
