Zoomorphic Figures with Natalia Arbelaez

Join us at Pottery Northwest for a very special two-days hands-on workshop with Artist and Educator Natalia Arbelaez. Natalia serves as Assistant Professor of Ceramics at the University of Washington. Her work has been exhibited internationally, in museums, galleries, and included in various collections, such as the Everson Museum, New York; Museum of Art and Design, New York; Fuller Craft Museum, Massachusetts; The ICA Miami; and the Gardiner Museum, Toronto, Canada.

In this sculptural workshop, students will build reusable wooden armatures for figures, animals, and zoomorphic forms. We will explore modular building techniques for larger, more accessible sculptures using basic techniques such as coil, slab, and solid construction.

The workshop will cover foundational solid, coil, and slab-building techniques that are accessible to beginners while giving more advanced participants the opportunity to use these methods to develop increasingly complex work. Participants will leave with a greenware clay piece or may choose to pick up their bisque-fired piece after the workshop, allowing adequate drying time before firing.

This workshop is open to All Levels. However, having previous experience in clay is recommended.

We believe clay is for everyone! Need tuition assistance? Please send us an email at info@potterynorthwest.org for more information.
