Sam Scott is a native Seattleite who has been working in clay since 1968. He works predominately in porcelain on the potter’s wheel and his forms are defined by functional simplicity and the employment of new forms of decoration on the clay surface that juxtapose biomorphic poured shapes in contrast to the dense white porcelain. These drips create a graphic tension that is enhanced by orienting the directional flow of the glaze from both rim and foot of the piece.
In this noteworthy exhibition Scott presents recent works from each of this three main areas of creation. His trademark black and white vessels, his gently brushed blue and brown pots and his sharply satiric relief plates.
