SHAYLA M. ALARIE

Hey there! My name is Shayla and I have quite a diverse background in the arts.

An art historian by trade, I received my MA at UW in 2010. I had significant gallery experience already at that point, so for the next decade I worked both in galleries and in higher education. I have taught at the University of Washington, Seattle University and Olympic College. My gallery credentials include Anderson O'Brien Fine Art, Maruskiya's of Nome, Stonington Gallery, Foster/White, two years as the secretary of the Seattle Art Dealer's Association, and five years as the Director of Davidson Galleries.

I made the decision in 2018 to leave gallery work and dedicate myself fully to education. I taught full time for two years, both in art history and studio art, and then in 2021 I was appointed Education Director at the Kirkland Arts Center. There I implemented a teen program and helped re-build the educational programming after the COVID lockdown.

In 2022 I was delighted to join the team of Pottery Northwest in their new location in Pioneer Square. Here I can bring my education background together with my knowledge and experience of the Seattle art gallery community.
