Pottery Northwest is proud to announce the call for a 2025 BIPOC Summer Artist-In-Residence. 

This program offers a dedicated ceramic artist the opportunity to refine their artistic skill set, to grow in their professional development, and to expand their network of colleagues and connections.

This residency will enable the selected artist to continue, complete or build a body of work with the intention of creating an exhibition in the Pottery Northwest Gallery. Additionally, the resident will teach a workshop, have a featured display in our Seattle Art Fair booth, and become an active participant in our clay community.

Residency Description

Residents will receive:

• An unrestricted $2,000.00 stipend.

• A 7 x 8 foot studio space with handbuilding table, metro rack and wheel (if desired).

• 24-hour access to our studio.

• Free use of our glazes, slips and oxides.

• Free reclaim and all other clay bodies at cost.

• Free firings.

• Access to all kilns and equipment.

• An end-of-term exhibition in our onsite gallery.

• A featured display in our 2025 Seattle Art Fair Booth.

Residents are expected to:

• Spend at least 20 hours per week working in their studio.

• Engage with studio community members and answer questions about work and process.

• Work with staff to engage in Pottery Northwest’s social media platforms.

• Spend 4 hours per week working with our studio managers on studio maintenance and upkeep. Tasks will be tailored to the resident's experience and interest.

• Teach one workshop that relates to their specific area of expertise.

• Give an artist talk in conjunction with their workshop and exhibition.

Resident will work closely with the Programs Director on all aspects of the workshop, artist talk and exhibition so that the Director may provide help and guidance as needed.

Who is eligible?

Position is open only to those who identify as part of the BIPOC community as a direct response to systemic injustices that have plagued our society for generations. This residency is meant to give platform and opportunity to those who are members of historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Who will be choosing the resident?

Applicants will be selected by a three-person panel comprised of Pottery Northwest community members.
