Bianca McPherson creates ceramic forms that explore identity, perception, and the experience of existing between worlds. Working primarily in black, white, and the gradients between, she uses coiling and complex, rippling surfaces to challenge fixed categories and assumptions. Her work embraces ambiguity, inviting viewers to consider the tension between what is seen, what is projected, and what remains continually in the process of becoming.

This piece was made for her 2025 solo exhibition, Tenderhead, at the Zoller Gallery in University Park, Pennsylvania. These works are near and dear to her heart as they explore familial influence, inheritance, and the ways we can be shaped by one another despite the distances between us. The forms act as abstractions of distinct personalities, connected through a shared material language. The glaze becomes a kind of tether, morphing and changing across each piece, reflecting the unseen and often unknown ways familial relationships continue to shape us.
